The Fitness Emory program, under the Emory Recreational Services umbrella, offers a variety of non-credit group exercise and martial arts classes held at the Woodruff P.E. Center (WPEC).
Fitness Emory Policies:
-The classes are open to Emory students with a valid Emory student I.D. or Woodruff P.E. Center members with a valid facility use card.
-Martial arts class participants (Aikido, Capoeira, Tae Kwon Do, Tai Chi)have the option of purchasing a MAAC card (Martial Arts Access Card) to attend all scheduled classes for the semeter. Either a punch card or a MAAC card is required to attend a martial arts class and a waiver must be signed prior to participation.
-All other class participants must purchase a Fitness Emory punch card and sign a waiver before attending any Fitness Emory classes.
-Children under the age of 14 are not permitted to attend Fitness Emory classes; people ages 14-17 are permitted to take Fitness Emory classes, but must have their parent or guardian sign the waiver form.
-Punch cards and class fees can be paid for by check, cash or money order.
-Punch cards are valid for one calendar year, expiring on December 31 of that year. However, the following year's punch cards will be sold beginning mid-November and can be used for classes that fall semester beginning on the date they are sold.
-Class participants must have the card punched by the Recreational Services staff worker or class instructor on-site before or after each class.
-The fee for the classes covers the cost of instruction, operational expenses and equipment.
-No refunds, exchanges or transfers of unused classes will be offered for any reason.
-Lost or stolen punch cards will not be replaced.
-Punch cards are non-transferable and cannot be re-sold.
-Punch cards are the property of Emory University, and may be confiscated for misuse and must be surrendered upon demand.
-Each class has a limit on the number of participants. Classes are on a first-come first-serve basis. If you arrive after a class is full, you cannot participate in that class.
-If a class is consistently attended by a low number of participants, Recreational Services reserves the right to cancel the class without notice and at any time.
-The class schedule, as well as class times, locations and instructors, are subject to change without notice.~ Recreational Services will post signs regarding any changes in the published schedule.
-Fitness Emory participants receive a survey via email towards the end of the fall and spring semesters for program feedback; participants can also email ask.rec.services@learnlink.emory.edu to submit program feedback.
-The Fitness Emory schedule may or may not change from semester to semester during an academic school year.
-During the summer there are a reduced number of classes, and class times may be adjusted due to the shortened WPEC building hours.
-Recreational Services determines the Fitness Emory schedule from semester to semester based upon class popularity the previous semester, participant feedback, and instructor & space availability.
-Feedback on changing the Fitness Emory schedule and suggestions on adding any new classes can be addressed via email to ask.rec.services@learnlink.emory.edu.
To successfully change the schedule or add a class:
a. There must be sufficient interest from current Emory students and/or Woodruff P.E. Center members in the proposed schedule changes or class additions, and
b. The proposed changes/additions are deemed, by the Recreational Services staff, to be in the best interest of the Fitness Emory program, and
c. The proposed changes/additions are feasible with consideration to existing classes, and instructor & facility space availability.
If all the above criteria are met, the changes or additions may take place within the current semester, otherwise they will take place the following semester.
