Recreational Services

The Office of Recreational Services has been an integral part of Emory University for 125 years, offering the South's best intramural and recreational programming. Beginning in 1880, we sponsored open recreation activities. Then, in 1891, we hosted the first intramural competitions at Emory, followed shortly by the formation of the first club sport groups in 1893.

Recreational Services brings together all parts of the Emory community. Our intramural and club sport programs boast some of the largest memberships of any campus organizations. Fitness Emory and the Emory Rock Climbing Arena allow students, faculty, staff, and affiliates to interact in fun, active environments. Finally, our personal training program is tailored for each individual's needs and schedule.

RECREATION MISSION

Recreational Services engages the University community in achieving lifelong appreciation for pursuing healthy lifestyles by providing innovative and comprehensive programming, student employment, and leadership development opportunities.

VISION

Recreational Services strives to be a leader among university recreation programs and an integral part of the Emory campus community by providing diverse and quality recreation programming and learning opportunities.

CORE VALUES

Integrity – Adherence to sound moral and ethical principles

Student Leadership Opportunities

Provides leadership opportunities for recreation participants in several different avenues:  as a participant, as an official, as an instructor, and as a supervisor.

In these positions, we acknowledge that leadership opportunities may be inherent to the position or presented by senior recreation administrators.

Ethical Decision Making

Acknowledges that decision making skills are instinctive to an extent, but we strive to instill participants, officials, instructors, and supervisors with the knowledge that their decisions directly affect the quality of programming and reflect the goals of the Emory Intramural program.

Confidence

Acknowledges that those with confidence in their leadership skills and decision making are likely to show integrity in a recreational setting.

We encourage those who participate in intramurals to have confidence in teammates, in administrators and officials, and most importantly, in themselves.
